Alliances & Coalitions

Mental Health Europe is member of various European alliances, coalitions and experts groups to ensure that mental health is mainstreamed in all policy areas. These alliances are ideal opportunities to collaborate with other organisations and institutions on pivotal issues such as deinstitutionalisation, mental health in the workplace, the impact of austerity on health and mental health care.

The European Expert Group on Transition from Institutional to Community-based Care (EEG)

Deinstitutionalisation is one of MHE’s core values. MHE is member of the European Expert Group on Transition from Institutional to Community-based Care (EEG) through which we advocate with 12 others organisations for deinstitutionalisation in Europe. The EEG organised seminars on DI for the EU and also submits views on relevant consultations.

Dr Jan Pfeiffer, MHE Senior Policy Advisor, took over the rotating chairmanship on behalf of MHE until June 2017. https://deinstitutionalisation.com/

The European Alliance for Mental Health – Employment & Work (EUMH Alliance)

The EUMH Alliance is an informal coalition of European organisations, the main aims of which are to promote mental health and well-being in the workplace, to advocate for equal access to the labour market for all people experiencing mental ill health and to stimulate policy developments at EU level in these domains.

The European Alliance against disability cuts

The Alliance against disability cuts explores the negative effect of the crisis and austerity measures on persons with disabilities including people with psychosocial disabilities. MHE helped at the promotion of the Alliance’s draft resolution, which outlines measures that should be taken by the EU and its members states  to ensure that cuts in public spending do not lead to further social exclusion and institutionalisation of people with disabilities. With regular meetings, the Alliance’s members work hard to gather data on the impact of austerity.

The European Alliance for investing inchildren

The Alliance4investinginchildren advocates for the end of child poverty and promotes child well-being across Europe. The European Parliament Written Declaration on Investing in Children drafted by the Alliance was successfully adopted with 428 signatures at the end of 2015. The Declaration calls upon the European Commission to introduce specific indicators on children at risk of poverty and urges EU Member States to use EU funding to implement the Commission Recommendation ‘Investing in Children: Breaking the cycle of disadvantage’. MHE ensures that the mental health of children is not overlooked by contributing to this very active and successful coalition of organisations. Recently, the alliance submitted a response to the public consultation on the European Social Pillar with key recommendations regarding children’s rights.
