European Alliance Against Depression (EAAD) (2004-2006)
Supported by the European Commission, DG Health
and Consumer Protection
Co-ordinating organisation : Psychiatry Clinic of the University
of Munchen (Germany)
Mental Health Europe is one of the project partners.
Based on the successful work of the German “Nuremberg Alliance Against
Depression”, the project gathers 18 European partners representing 16
different countries, a World Health Organisation work group and a professional
IT partner.
OBJECTIVES
During its first phase (April 2004 - October 2005) the project will address the severe diagnostic and therapeutic deficits concerning depression, by conducting intervention programmes in 18 European regions. These programmes are based on already available knowledge, structures and material. In each of the participating regions actions will be taken at 4 levels :
-
Cooperation with general practitioners (e.g. training sessions, video, telephone hotline)
-
Public relations activities (e.g. media guidelines)
-
Training sessions for multipliers (e.g. priests, social workers, media etc.)
-
Special offers for high risk groups and self help activities
ACHIEVEMENTS
A catalogue of “best practices” for the
4 level intervention programmes (e.g. educational packages, videotapes, a
film spot and public relations material) was set up. Many of these materials
were developed within the “Nuremberg Alliance Against Depression”
and have already been or will be adapted to other European countries and regions.
Project partners also contributed with materials to this catalogue.
Since April 2004 some partners have carried out concrete intervention programmes
against depression (Iceland, Switzerland, France), other partners have worked
on campaign materials (Belgium, Ireland, Slovenia), others have trained experts
for further education on depression (Italy).
A website was also created, which informs the broad public about the project
and allows an easy exchange of information and documents for project partners.
