The European Commission, DG Health and Consumers, has recently started to collate and publish online the statements of support for the European Pact for Mental Health and Well-being. Governments, organisations, individuals and key stakeholders with an interest on mental health and wellbeing are invited to send their statement to the Commission. On 27 April 2009, Mental Health Europe participated in the Round Table event "Reducing the psychosocial impact of the financial and economic crisis", which was hosted by Commissioner for Health Ms Androulla Vassiliou and which was prepared in cooperation between DG Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities and DG Health and Consumers. MHE, represented  by Malgorzata Kmita, MHE president, presented  some recommendations  during this meeting. To read MHE recommendations, please click here.

The seminar Mental Health and Gender:Key Issues for the European Pact For Mental Health and Well-being is organised by the SUPPORT project with DG-SANCO. This event is part of the implementation of the European Pact for Mental Health and Well-being.The event will take place on 13th May 2009 at the West Midlands in Europe Centre, Avenue D'Auderghem 22-26, Brussels. CAPACITY BUILDING SEMINAR ON EMPOWERMENT AND GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The 2009 MHE members' capacity building seminar will be held in Brussels on Friday 12 June 2009. Theme of the seminar is EMPOWERMENT of relevant stakeholders in the mental health field: mental health service users, mental health professionals, politicians and policy-makers. The agenda can be read here.

Please complete the attendance and hotelbooking form and return it to the MHE secretariat (info@mhe-sme.org) by 13 May 2009 at the latest if you are interested in participating in these events.

  • The European Commission organises a conference on youth health Be healthy- Be yourself on 9-10 July 2009 in Brussels. The Commission set up a new website in youth friendly design which is going to be available in 22 languages from next week on. To read more about this event, please click here

On 31 March 2009, Mental Health Europe submitted its response to the Commission consultation on the communication "EU Action to reduce health inequalities".
This communication on health inequalities has been announced by the European Commission communication as a key initiative of the work programme 2009. Work on this Communication is being jointly led by the Directorates General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal opportunities (DG EMPL) and for Health and Consumers (DG SANCO), together with several other DGs.
